Carol Clarke, a woman described as a "predatory paedophile", has been given an indeterminate sentence for sexually abusing children.

The former English teacher admitted abusing about 100 children, saying she had committed attacks on both boys and girls of primary school age.

They were sometimes carried out by following children into public toilets in Grimsby and other parts of Lincolnshire.

Grimsby Crown Court heard that there was no evidence against her apart from her own confession.

However, a behavioural psychologist who examined the 46-year-old told the court that she had "most likely" offended in the way she described.

Sky's North of England correspondent Gerard Tubb said: "This woman has, through most of her adult life, been confessing to various mental health professionals and to a senior minister in her church, that she was abusing children, that she had very unhealthy thoughts towards children, that she hated children.

"On one occasion she was asked if she would prefer to have treatment or go to the police.

"She chose treatment but it seemed to make no difference.

"On another occasion she was told by the minister in her church to read the Bible when she confessed to him that she had these thoughts about children."

Det Sup Phil Walker: 'She's A Dangerous Offender'
It was only last year, when she told a nurse at a psychiatric hospital that she had been driving around the Grimsby area looking for a child to abduct, abuse and possibly even kill, that the police were called in and she was arrested.

In court for sentencing following her guilty plea, Clarke was told by Judge David Tremberg that she posed a serious risk and was jailed for an indeterminate period, with a minimum of four years.
